Completing the IEP: Aligning Goals to Recommended Programs and Services section

Each student's Individualized Education Program (IEP) is comprised of many sections. The Aligning Goals to Recommended Programs and Services section appears on all IEPs for all students.

This section is populated with the goals that were created in the Measurable Annual Goals section of the IEP. Each goal must align with a recommended program or service to allow staff members to analyze whether the programs and services helped the student achieve his or her goals.

Important: This section is intended for analysis and to encourage data-driven decision making. It will not be included as part of the IEP and should not be selected for printing.

Tips

• A goal can only be associated with one program or service, but each program or service may have multiple goals.
  
  
• If a goal is relevant for more than one program or service, the goal may be copied so it can be associated with the additional program or service.
  
  
• Every recommended program or service must have at least one goal.
  
  

To complete the Aligning Goals to Recommended Programs and Services section of the IEP

1. Locate the student's profile.
   How?
   
   
2. From the Actions bar, click Documents.
   
   A list of all documents for the student appears.
   
   
3. Click Individualized Education Program (IEP).
   
   The IEP document appears.
   
   Note: If the IEP document does not appear on the list, create a new IEP document.
   
   
4. Verify that the Measurable Annual Goals have been identified.
   
   Note: If the measurable annual goals have not been identified, complete that section of the IEP document before proceeding.
   
   
5. Verify that the recommended programs and services have been identified.
   
   Note: If the recommended programs and services have not been identified, complete that section of the IEP document before proceeding.
   
   Important: If a twelve month program was recommended, first complete the Twelve Month Service and/or Program section before completing this section.
   
   
6. From the Actions bar, click the Select drop-down () icon.
   
   
7. From the pop-up menu, click Other Sections.
   
   The Other Sections screen appears.
   
   
8. Click Aligning Goals to Recommended Programs and Svcs.
   
   The Aligning Goals to Recommended Programs and Services section of the IEP appears.
   
   
9. Under each recommended program or service, check the box for each corresponding goal.
   
   Important: Each goal must be aligned to a recommended program or service. A recommended program or service may have more than one goal associated with it, but an individual goal may only be used once. If multiple programs or services require the same goal, the goal must be copied and then associated with the additional program or service.
   
   
10. Click the Save, Done Editing button.
