Placing a student in SESIS
You can identify and reserve placements for students in the following
situations:
- Elementary and middle school students who require Special Class, Integrated Co-Teaching (ICT) or Special Education Teacher Support Services (SETSS) provided by a District 75 provider.
- Elementary, middle, and high school students in specialized (District 75) schools who require a new Special Class placement.
Note: SESIS is not used to place students with any other
program or service recommendations. It is also not used for community high school students.
To place a student in SESIS
- Locate the student’s profile.
How?
- From the Actions bar, click the Place Student link.
The placement form appears.
Tip: This form is sometimes referred to as the
“placement generator.”
- In the Parameters section, review the Recommended Programs drop-down
menu and, if necessary, select the appropriate program.
Note: The Recommended Programs field is pre-selected based
on the primary program recommendation in the student’s most recently
finalized IEP. If the student has the same frequency for ICT and Special
Class, Special Class will be selected over ICT as it is harder to place. If
two Special Classes have the same frequency, the first entered in SESIS will
be selected.
- Review the remaining pre-selected fields and make adjustments, if
necessary.
- In the Rules section, check or uncheck search criteria as appropriate.
Note: Selecting more boxes will yield fewer search results.
- Click the Search for Placements button.
A list of available classes appears.
- Review the list and locate an appropriate class.
Check the checkbox next to at least one class (up to five classes) to view
the class properties.
- Click the Review Selected button.
A list of the selected classes appears. The following information is
displayed for each class:
- Class ID
- Physical Location DBN
- Program
- Staffing Ratio
- Language of Instruction
- Ages
- Grades
- Math
levels
- Reading
levels
- Capacity (number of filled seats and the
total available seats)
- Accessibility
- Distance from the student’s home address
- Click the magnifying glass (
)
icon next to the class you want to review.
The Class Properties window appears.
Note: To view the Class Properties,
position the mouse over the Class ID.
- Click the Select (
)
icon to view the Class Student Roster.
- Click the close (
) icon to close the Class Properties
window.
- Click the green check mark (
) icon next to the class to
place the student in that class.
The selected class is highlighted in yellow and the system
message “Successfully created a placement for…” indicates
the placement was successfully created.
Tip: To create the Prior Notice Package for
Placement (link to topic) immediately after placing the
